Museum of Robots in Second Life announces the 'Build-a-Robot' Competition, and invites all residents to participate. All entrants receive a merchandise prize, with an additional 30,000 L$ cash prize pool awarded to the top 10 winners.
Our definition of 'robot' is unlimited: any design that you think can be called a robot is acceptable.
Entry Classes are: Standalone, Wearable, and Homage to Classic Robots.
There is a maximum limit of 100 prims per entry and entries may be scripted or unscripted. All residents are eligible to enter, including established designers and new robot builders. The emphasis is on original creations for the Standalone and Wearable classes. Homage to Classic Robots is for work that replicates existing robots or characters from film, television, or media.

The Rules: Must use a pose from the new [LAP] Pornstar Wannabe set. Please tag photos with an 'lap pornstar' tag or something similiar. Please credit which pose you use in the photo. Must be added to the [LAP] flickr group pool.
The Theme/Twist: The winner will be the person who uses the pose(s) in the most unconventional/original
The End: 6/5/08
The Prize: Winner gets to select any one pose set or couples/group pose set from the shop for FREE! yay!
Artisan Magazine Cover Competition - Deadline: JUNE 15th, 2008
******You must join the Artisan magazine flickr group.******
To celebrate the release of The Artisan magazine those here on staff want to honor one of the communities artists by having a cover competition.
Rules of Entry:
1. Participants **MUST** post their entries on the Artisan Magazine Flickr Group and agree to release their entry for professional use as the first issue cover on The Artisan magazine.
2. The entry should just be an image that will be used for the cover of the magazine. Second Life images ONLY please and ONE Entry per account. The words and captions needed on the cover will be done by an Artisan staff member and will ensure that the font is suited to the theme of the piece.
3. Image will be sourced from the original size in the Flickr posting and will be resized if needed. But if possible make the image no larger then 1024 x 768 to prevent large resizing.
4. This is YOUR shot. YOUR cover. We are not looking for any particular kind of shot we just want to see what the art community as a whole can come up with. Something original. If that means a scene or an avatar look then so be it. Make this your own and what you would like to see on the cover of an artists magazine.
Each of the thirteen staff members will choose from the pool of entries submitted one piece they enjoy the most. Out of these thirteen pieces a vote will be taken amongst the staff and one winner will be chosen.
There is only *ONE* grand prize:

WBA-Advertising & EML-Entertainments is glad to announce: The Wildlife Second Life Photo Contest
The WildLife Contest is the 1st contest entirely dedicated to non-human life in Second Life.
Are you a furry, do you love explore the most uncontaminated island of Second Life? Do you know of a place where there is wildlife worthy of a photography? Well, this is your chance to show your talent.
We are looking for the very best pictures of wildlife taken in Second Life. This Include Fantasy and Real Life equivalents, let your imagination go.
The contest is restricted to Second Life residents and is a photography contest; artistic media other than photography are not allowed.
Submissions start May, 23 end June, 6; Winners Announcement will take place June, 12.
Rules
- In order to take part in the contest you need to be a member of Koinup. Registration is free and takes only a few seconds.
- The contest theme is wildlife or animal life in SL. You can submit photos in this two categories: Fantasy or Real Life Equivalents. Just as an example: a perfect remake of an elephant is a real life equivalent. A neko or a furry is a fantasy equivalent.
- Each participant can submit up-to 3 entries.If you have more than 3 entries at the end of the contest, you will be automatically inelegible for the win. Remember: Maximum 3 entries.
- To submit a photo to the contest, please insert the tag slwildlifecontest
- Photos will remain on Koinup after the end of the contest.

Emvee Cuba Contest Winners!

Three weeks ago we opened our newly redesigned sim, Emvee Cuba, and started taking entries for a photo contest. While I knew that we had created a beautiful space within SL, and I hoped that residents would enjoy it, I have been overwhelmed and impressed by the gorgeous and diverse art that SL residents have created using Emvee Cuba for a backdrop.
We’ve spent the last week in close deliberation, pouring through the more than FIVE HUNDRED amazing images people were generous enough to share with us and with each other. Each image was beautiful and precious and it has been an exceptionally hard decision, however, we promised prizes, so we had to choose! The winners are:

Contest Headquarters
1.) Contest runs from the 1st of the Month to the 1st of the next Month.
( ex. May Contest - Starts 1st May ends 1st June )
2.) Contestants are allowed to enter at any point of the contest. Free entry.
3.) Each Contestant must be a member of the Playmates Group. Free to join.
4.) If a Contestant withdraws from the contest at anytime, their votes and the poster will be removed immediately from the contest wall
5.) Contestants may not ask for Votes on Contest Property - If this is found out 1 Warning will be issued, 2nd time will result in disqualification.
6.) Contestants may not pay people to vote for them. If they are found out to be doing so, they will be disqualified with no refunds to the Contestant and or Voters. (Immediate Disqualification)
7.) Contestants may vote for themselves. Only one vote per person.
8.) Contestants may not solicit and pay Newbies to come vote for them. Any voters that are 2 weeks old or less will be investigated.
Picture Submission
1.) Each contestant will submit 3 total pictures for the theme of the month (minimum). All pics to be sent to Gary Glimmer
2.) By submitting pictures to Playmates you grant permission for them to be used in Magazines or Adverts.
Voting
1.) Voting is broken down into two categories.
a. Actual Votes
b. L$ Votes
2.) All voters when casting a vote will be asked to make a contribution of L$ toward the contestant
a. Minimum of 1 L$
b. Maximum of ( no limit )
3.) A voter can vote as many times as they like, but for actual votes category only one vote will be credited to the Contestant while all L$ contributed to the contestant will count towards the contestants L$ total category.
4.) Each category carries a Rank.
a. Contestant receives a Rank for Actual Votes
b. Contestant receives a Rank for L$ contributed towards them
Example of Score Tally.
1.) If a Contestant has the 1st overall number of Actual Votes, they will receive a Rank of 1st in the Actual Vote Category
2.) If a contestant has the 1st overall L$ contribution, they will receive a Rank of 1st in the L$ Contribution Category
3.) Take each ranking and add them together ( 1+ 1 = 2 )
4.) Take the Total from both Rankings and Divide by the #2 ( 2/ 2 = 1 )
This gives the Contestant a Score of 1 and is ranked # 1 over all in the Contest
Other Examples:
Actual Vote Rank : 4th, L$ Contribution Rank : 2nd ( 4+2 = 6 ) /2 = 3 ( they will be ranked 3rd )
Actual Vote Rank : 2nd, L$ Contribution Rank : 4th ( 4+2 = 6 ) /2 = 3 ( they will be ranked 3rd )
This will require a tie breaker. Actual Votes becomes the Tie Breaker

First prize - 50% of all money taken up to L$25,000
Second prize - 20% of all money taken up to L$10,000
Third prize - 10% of all money taken up to l$5000

Money Island Hot or Not Rules!!!
1. What is the minimum vote? The minimum vote is 100 lindens, there is no maximum vote amount, again they can vote as much lindens as they like there is no maximum vote amount. Further, every 1000 lindens your picture gets counts as an extra vote. For example Steve gets 5 votes and 5k lindens voted, his overall score would be 10 votes.
2. I don't like my picture now that i see it next to some of the others, can i change it?
Sorry but no, you may not change you're picture or you're spot once you have entered and submitted your picture. That is the only picture that we will use you may NOT submit another picture.
3. If you withdraw from the contest at anytime, you will not receive a refund nor will the voters and the poster will be removed immediately from the contest wall.
4. Contestants may not ask for Votes on Contest Property. If this is found out (1) Warning will be issued, 2nd time will result in disqualification, with no refund of votes or money made to contestant and/or voters. Contestants only may wear a tag that says "vote for me". Teleporting people in and telling them where your picture is, is fine. Randomly IMing everyone that comes in asking for votes, is not.

Fashion Expo 2008 Model Search - Deadline: May 25th
Fashion Expo 2008 Model Search
This will be a very high fashion NY City atmosphere including the catwalk. All custom built by the amazing Granite Outlander and a definite must see for all even if you do not wish to model. As you could probably figure out, we are VERY excited about this!

She's So Unusual Shoes Flickr Contest - Dealine: Last day of the Month
Deadline for this month's entries May 31st (but sooner the better!), then ongoing at the end of each month.

Over the next couple days I'll be looking over the pictures, and showing them to my friends.
We will very undemocratically, yet very fairly, judge the pics and pick out three of our favorites.

Submission Guidelines
Content: Your photos should include you and/or someone wearing/modeling my products ranging from hairstyles, clothing, shoes, and/or accessories. You do not have to wear all or nothing, but at least one item you are modeling should be by ETD.
Absolutely no nudity will be permitted.
Size: Please submit photos at the highest resolution possible. If your system can handle SL's "High Resolution Snapshot" feature please use that. Photos can be any size but no smaller than 512 x 512.
Post Work: If you decide to do post work in PhotoShop, please also include the original snapshot as well.
Labeling: With each submission, please include your full SL Avatar name (and the full name of any other person in the photo), the name and color of the ETD product you are wearing, the name of the photographer (in case you didn't take the snapshot) and the location.
Selected Photos: For photos that are selected and displayed in the store, the person who submitted the photo will get a Willow pack of hair or a fat pack of a clothing item or a fat pack of a pair of shoes....of their choice.
All photos submitted are subject to moderation and approval.

Q: Is Windlight a prerequisite to play? It's too much for my computer to handle!
A: Windlight is NOT required to play PhotoHunt.
Q: What is the aspect ratio of a typical Second Life snapshot?
A: 4:3 or 1024x768 pixels
Q: If I take a snapshot outside of the typical aspect ratio, will you stretch my entry panel to make my entry proportionate?
A: No. In order to make the contests run smoothly, we ask that you please make your snapshots fit within the 4:3 ratio, or accept any stretching that may occur otherwise.
Voting is done with a moderation style system. If you like a picture, You will be able to vote it up. (Add a vote). If you don't like a picture, you will be able to vote it down (removing a vote). There is no limit to the number of snapshots you may vote for, but you may vote only once for each snapshot.

If the theme is a word or phrase, you may search anywhere in Second Life to find the best snapshot that falls within the theme. If the theme is a landmark, the snapshot you take MUST be taken within the parcel that the landmark takes you to.

Second Life Portrait Contest- Deadline: June 4th

Ananke Media Systems and Koinup are proud to announce the First Second Life Portrait Contest.
The Contest is sponsored by Ananke Media Systems and it is the first Koinup contest totally sponsored by a Second Life brand. The contest is restricted to Second Life residents and it is a photography contest; artistic media other than photography are not allowed.
Submissions will start on May 15th and will finish on June 4th.
Rules
- In order to take part in the contest you need to be a member of Koinup. Registration is free and takes only a few seconds.
- The contest theme is portrait. Please remember that not only close-up portraits are welcome, but also full-body photos. In any case, make sure that your photos focus on the avatar rather than the landscape or other elements. Self-portraits are welcome.
- Photos can be submitted to the contest by posting them on Koinup. To submit a photo to the contest, please insert the tag slportraitcontest. If you wish, copy this tag and paste it onto your entries.
- Photos can be taken inworld using any available means, such as Second Life photo studios. Photos can also be post-processed using programs such as Photoshop.
- Photos already posted on Koinup by May 15th cannot be submitted to the contest. Please submit new works.
- Each participant can submit up to three photos
- Photos will remain on Koinup after the end of the contest.
- Entering the contest implies the acceptance of these rules.
Winners and Prizes
There will be three winners.
- Winners will be picked by a contest jury composed by Anna Tretiak (founder of Ananke Media Systems), Bella March (photographer in Second Life) and Therese Carfagno (SLNN.com reporter).
- Each of the three winners will receive a fully-functional PhotoTools Pro package, valued in L$ 3750 and including lifetime updates. PhotoTools Pro includes PhotoStage, a powerful photography toolkit especially designed for studio modeling, portrait and still life shooting in Second Life, plus PhotoLite, a lightweight toolkit for on-location shooting.
- Winning photos will also be displayed at The Workshop (Lady Vale 122, 106, 21) for a minimum of three weeks.
- Winners will be announced on the Koinup blog and on the Ananke Media Systems web site by June 16th
- In order to select the winners, the contest jury will focus on assessing the following aspects:
- Aesthetics (i.e. how beautiful each photo is)
- Technique (i.e. how well executed it is)
- Narrative (i.e. the photo's ability to tell a story)
Ellie's Model Search: DEADLINE: June 1st
Ellie's Model Search.
Ellie's is looking for one more model to show their clothes on signs and mannequins. So what better way to find one more than hold a contest.

The contest consists of three parts:
1. Entry Phase
2. Popular Vote Phase
3. Finalist Phase
Part 1: Entry Phase
The entry phase is the first part of our contest. This is the creative phase for all of our contestants.
We are asking that each entrant submit three photos for the contest. Two photos will be full body shots and the third will be an upper torso and face shot.
Each entrant must submit photos using at least two Ellie's Store outfits. Which outfits do not matter, but please do not abuse using the free outfits that are available on the hunts (I do not want everyone looking the same).
Please make sure to take some time with your pictures. Such things as lighting, background, shape, skin, hair, jewelry, manicure, shoes and so forth will make the difference when you get to Part 2 and espically Part 3.
Please make sure all of your pictures are full permissions.
FYI....there are three (3) N30 photo machines on the roof of Ellie's that are free of charge to use.
When you are finished, please drop a notecard in the mailbox at Ellie's in Galactica with the title "Ellie's Model Contest". Include your full permission photos and your name in the body of the notecard. If you have a preference for picture for Part 2, please let us know as well.
Part 1 begins on Saturday May 17th and will end at 11:59 pm SL time on Sunday June 1st.
Part 2: Popular Vote Phase
The voting will begin Monday June 2nd and end on Thursday June 5th at 11:59 pm SL time.
Part 2 is the popular voting phase. Every contestant will have their picture put up in Ellie's for voting.
The top 10 vote getters will move on to Part 3 of the model search.
Part 3: Finalist Phase
Part 3 will involve the top 10 vote getters from Part 2.
Each contestant in Part 3 will receive an outfit to take further pictures with (all contestants will receive the same outfit). This outfit will not be an outfit picked by any of the other finalists in the first 2 parts.
Each contestant will take two new photos with the new outfit: full shot and upper body/face.
The contestants will have until Sunday morning June 8th at 8:00 am SL time to submit new photos.
Judging will take place on Sunday June 8th and the winners will be posted on Monday June 9th.
Prizes:
- 1st Place: $1750 linden plus picking an outfit of your choice to become a mannequin inside Ellie's Main Store
- 2nd Place: $750 linden
- 3rd Place: $500 linden
Other rules:
1. If you entred a previous Ellie's model contest, you can enter this contest. The only rule is you need to get new outfits for this contest (I still have the photos of the previous contest).
